How to try and avoid drug assisted rape:

> Try to avoid leaving your drinks unattended

> Try to have bottled drinks and keep your thumb over them

> Be aware of how much alcohol you have drunk / are drinking

> Don't accept a drink from a stranger

> If a drink tastes strange, or has a strange appearance - don't drink it

> Be aware of the people around you and their behaviour

> Go out with a friend / friends you can trust

> Tell people where you are

What to do if it happens to you:

> Get medical attention as soon as possible

> Do not shower, wash, douche or change your clothes

> Try to save clothing from the time / day it happened

> Tell the police

> Get tested (sexual assault test)

> Go to the GU clinic - you may need testing for sexually transmitted infections

Common drugs used in drug assisted rape:

> Alcohol - Wine, beer, hard liquor

> Rohypnol - Its tasteless, odourless and dissolves quickly in liquids

> Marijuana - Green/grey dried shredded flowers and hemp leaves can be smoked, mixed with food or tea

> Tranquilizers - Most commonly known as prescription drugs used to treat anxiety

> Barbituates - Pills, capsules, syrups used as sedatives

> GHB - Recreational drug, odourless, tasteless, easily slipped into drinks

> Amphetamines - Can be taken orally, injected, smoked, snorted, bitter tasting

> Cocaine - Crystalline powder, smoked, snorted, injected or mixed in water

> Ketomine - Smoked, snorted, mixed in water
